FAQs

Who is PPL EnergyPlus®?
PPL EnergyPlus is a subsidiary of PPL Corporation. PPL EnergyPlus is not the same company as PPL Electric Utilities. We have been a licensed electricity supplier since 1998 and currently supply energy and expertise to some of the biggest commercial, industrial and institutional customers in Pennsylvania. PPL EnergyPlus is now offering competitive electricity pricing to residential customers.

Why am I able to switch to PPL EnergyPlus?
Pennsylvania allows you to choose the company that supplies your electricity. Over one million Pennsylvania customers have already switched to a new electricity supplier.

How much may I save?
That depends on your electricity usage. Remember, electricity supply represents one portion of your total electric bill. You will still pay your Electric Distribution Company (local utility) a charge for delivering electricity that covers the costs to operate, maintain, repair and improve their wires and equipment, and this charge will not be included within the PPL EnergyPlus price.

What is the “Price to Compare” and where can I find it?
This is the price that your Electric Distribution Company (local utility) charges for the electricity it must purchase for you if you don’t switch suppliers. That price changes every three months and is available from your Electric Distribution Company (local utility).

Is PPL EnergyPlus's fixed price truly a fixed price?
Yes, our fixed price truly is one. We include all costs associated with our fixed price upfront. Other suppliers may offer a fixed price but in the fine print tell you the price could change due to calculations, or hidden fees are passed to you altering the price. 

What will happen to my electric service if I switch?
Nothing will change about your electric service. Your Electric Distribution Company (local utility) will continue to deliver the electricity you purchase, read your meter and respond when the power goes out. And, you’ll still get one bill from your Electric Distribution Company (local utility) that will include your PPL EnergyPlus charges.

What if I have questions about my bill?
You would contact your Electric Distribution Company. PECO:1-800-494-4000. PPL Electric Utilities:1-800-342-5775. Met-Ed: 1-888-478-2300. Duquesne Light: 1-888-393-7100. Penelec: 1-888-478-2300. 

Does PPL EnergyPlus engage in outbound telemarketing calls?
PPL EnergyPlus does not engage in outbound telemarketing or automated robot sales calls. The only time we’ll reach out to you by phone is if we’re proactively checking on a potential issue or making a routine customer satisfaction call. If you’re unsure who is calling and why, here are some helpful tips:

  • Before providing any information, ask the caller for the name of the company he or she works for. If it’s a telemarketing company, ask what electric supplier they represent.
  • Someone calling from PPL EnergyPlus would never ask for your account number – we’d already have it. If the caller is not from PPL EnergyPlus, you do not have to provide it.
  • If you believe it is a sales call, you can ask to be put on their “Do Not Call” list.

And if you don’t want any sales calls, you can always add your number to the National Do Not Call Registry here. If you do have questions, one of our friendly representatives would be happy to help you. Simply call 1-888-289-7693.

Is there any charge to enroll?
Absolutely not. PPL EnergyPlus has free enrollment and there are no monthly fees associated with your account. If you already have selected a competitive supplier, please be aware that your current supplier may have a cancellation fee.

Is there a circumstance where PPL EnergyPlus could cancel this agreement?
PPL EnergyPlus would cancel your agreement only for one of these three reasons: (1) Non-payment by you; (2) Changes in any legislation, regulation or electric distribution company tariff that adversely affect this agreement; or (3) Unpreventable natural calamities or other events beyond the reasonable control of PPL EnergyPlus.

I have installed solar panels on my home and currently sell the excess electricity I don't use to my utility company. Will PPL EnergyPlus purchase my excess electricity?
PPL EnergyPlus does not purchase or reimburse excess electricity generation from residential customers with net metering. If you choose PPL EnergyPlus as your electricity supplier, you will not receive any compensation for this energy while you will likely receive compensation from your electric distribution company under its net metering program. For this reason, you should consider remaining a customer of your electric distribution company.

When will I start receiving electricity from PPL EnergyPlus?
We will begin supplying electricity to your home after the enrollment process is completed by PPL EnergyPlus and your electric distribution company. Depending on the time of your next meter read and other factors, this process could take up to 4 to 6 weeks.

Is PPL EnergyPlus licensed?
Yes. PPL EnergyPlus has been licensed by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) since 1998.
