Wind Energy Projects

PPL has made a 20-year commitment to buy the electricity generated at two wind farms in Pennsylvania and has agreed to buy half of the renewable energy credits produced by a new wind farm in West Virginia. The three projects total 132 megawatts of renewable energy.

  • Bear Creek Wind Farm
In operation since March 2006, this 24-megawatt wind power project near Wilkes-Barre, Pa., produces enough renewable electricity to power 5,500 homes.
  • Locust Ridge Wind Farm
26-megawatt wind farm installation in Mahanoy City, Pa., Locust Ridge began producing power for the grid in March 2007.
  • Nedpower MountStorm Wind Project
PPL EnergyPlus purchases half of the output, 164 megawatts, from a new wind farm in Grant County, W.Va., that began service in August 2008.
